The Plant Doctor is Roger Hirons, an expert on plants and garden design with over 20 years of horticultural experience, stemming from formal training at Pershore College of Horticulture and years of working in the industry. He is professional… and friendly!
Roger has been giving talks on gardening for over 20 years to garden clubs and horticultural societies as well as taking coach tours to gardens of interest. In addition he has spoken on a local radio stations on topics of interests to gardeners. He has a wide range of topics that he can speak on and is usually invited back to speak again and again.
Roger says: “In a nutshell, I want to help people get their gardens to work for them by a combination of the right features and the right plants and trees in their best positions.”
His experience includes handling plant and tree selection (inspecting crops in the UK and abroad), health care and purchasing for a major garden centre, plus years of experience in design and build of gardens and training people on how to get the best from their gardens. He regularly works in natural stone, brickwork, blockwork, lawns, wooden features, plants, trees, fruit – and has even built a jetty as a garden feature!
A prolific writer, Roger has written dozens of articles on gardening, has spoken at WI and gardening clubs and regularly appeared on BBC Radio Northampton’s ‘Over The Garden Fence’ and regional Gardeners’ Question Time.
